It is essential that you will have a few minutes to discuss your time spent in public service. Texas is an excellent place to live and work and yet find meaningful work. Whether you are a stay-at-home parent, a working mom, a homemaker, or a day-care provider, Texas has a place for you.Community Service: The National Service Program is an agency within the Office of the Governor that gives scholarships to college students who participate in community service projects as well as to non-profit organizations that support service to the community. The program focuses on citizenship and can take many forms. You can participate in community service while at UT or at other colleges within the state. UT also provides the College Service Corps Program, which allows for the work to be performed by students that fill out the application. The scholarship is directly related to your UT GPA and must be used toward education.Texas Literacy Program: The Literacy Program is designed to assist students in obtaining their high school diploma. It includes an annual 'continuation exam' that students must pass in order to continue in the program. During this time, students can earn up to three college credits. Students must complete the Literacy Program at least once before becoming eligible for the continuous education credit. A College Board Score Report should be sent to applicants.Students can access Texas State Standards online which offer a variety of electives such as Math, English, Science, Social Studies, or Life Skills, and many other courses. Texas State Standards is used i n all academic curriculums except those that contain art, dance, theater, dance, music, or theater. These electives will help you achieve a higher GPA.Texas Achievement is a program that provides college-preparatory awards, scholarships, and grants for academically gifted children who participate in extracurricular activities. This program recognizes students who demonstrate an aptitude for academic achievement, discipline, and leadership qualities. Educational Advisors will help students prepare for standardized tests and are committed to meeting all requirements to receive their award. Free tutoring and instructional aides are available for students who need additional assistance. Awards are granted to students who attain achievement in areas such as classroom performance, extra-curricular participation, and scores on standardized tests.Home-schooling resources are provided to students enrolled in high school, to parents, and to students enrolled in Texas programs for adult educat ion. These resources help prepare students to attend college. The Community Access Adult Education Resource Center offers educational books, music, videos, and computers to students in the areas of computers, English, Science, Technology, or Math. UT Austin has many all-you-can-eat on-campus dining options, such as the Farm Market Dining Commons.
